Early 911 Turbos from the mid-1970s exude a special aura. As that fairy-tale era fades further into the history books, we reach for tangible objects that make us travel back in time. The Porsche 930 Turbo is just such an object, a car that embodies the soul of a time and ignites a flame that only gets brighter with age. Porsche's marketing department wanted the new 911 Turbo to be a bare lightweight, a successor to the sporty RS models. This icon was initially designed as a homologation version of the turbo engine for racing, with Porsche aiming for a production run of only 500. The suspension was derived from the race-ready 911 RSR and the engine was from the iconic Carrera 2.7RS. Porsche drilled the engine up to a hefty 3.0 liters and, as the name somewhat gives away, had a turbo fitted! However, the model's success soon led to the decision not to limit production. In total, spread over a production span of just under 15 years, some 21,589 units rolled off the assembly line. Only 2,819 of the first generation Porsche Turbo were produced. Among all air-cooled Porsches, the 930 Turbo 3.0 remains the ultimate 911 to this day.

Our car is one of only 530 examples of the J-series 930 Turbo that first appeared in America that year. They were produced from 1975 to July 1976, and this car, with chassis number 435, is a very early 1976 model. After being manufactured in April, it was delivered new to Victor Myette of Las Vegas, Nevada. Myette, a highly respected classic car racer and car collector, naturally couldn't resist getting his hands on one of the first examples of the 930 Turbo. However, he chose a special touch for the car. He abandoned the then-common colors of red and white and opted for a bold color combination: the beautiful and only available in special order color “Oak Green Metallic” combined with a cinnamon leather interior. A bold color combination, but enormously popular on the market today and almost impossible to find. He also ordered some highly coveted options from the factory to equip his car in the best way possible. These included a Blaupunkt Bamberg radio that you would pay about €1,000 for today, chrome trim, a center console, air conditioning, a sunroof, a leather cinnamon interior, dual rear speakers and of course the limited slip differential for the ultimate driving experience could not be missed. The car remained in his collection for some 33 years until 2009.

She exudes incredible originality in every aspect. In this kind of time capsule, the beauty often lies in the smallest details. Just think of the spot welds that are still visible everywhere, the gasoline tank with the factory wax, the roof liner that is still well attached everywhere and has not sagged, the door trunks that are still tight and close perfectly, the chassis that has not been painted over, the Porsche label on the seat belts and the yellow galvanized bolts and fasteners that indicate that the wiring has remained untouched. In addition, the complete toolset, a Bilstein-stamped jack and the spare tire with the correct time-specific coding are still with the car. Thanks to the favorable climate in which this car has been driven and the fact that it has seen virtually no drop of rain during its life, it is still in sublime condition. This is perfectly illustrated by the untouched floor under the interior mats, where there is not a trace of rust, and by the frame of the optional sunroof that still looks perfect. The latter is especially remarkable, considering that this is usually the first place where oxidation occurs.

Perhaps the most special thing is the original paint! This special order color was hand-painted by the factory. The thickness values of the paint over the entire car are around 150 microns. Based on this measurement, combined with what is mentioned in the German expert report, we can say with certainty that the car still has its original paint. For a car of this caliber, this is an absolute bonus! Indeed, it is common for almost all cars to receive a new coat of paint over the years. Moreover, many cars in the past have been repainted in a different, possibly “popular” color scheme such as red. So this is not the case with this car!

The engine starts immediately and runs very nicely and consistently, with no smoke or chatter. Power comes in a powerful surge of torque, accompanied by the distinctive turbo-boxer sound. The power is transmitted smoothly and precisely by the 930/30 buttery smooth gearbox. This distributes torque so well that a fifth gear became unnecessary. In addition, the very comfortable Bilstein shock absorbers ensure a pleasant driving experience without rattling noises or disturbing interior noise.

This car offers the best of both worlds: on the one hand it is a real “collectors car” because of its limited edition, beautiful color combination and sought-after options, on the other hand it is a real get in and drive “drivers car” due to the fact that it is very pleasant to drive and needs absolutely nothing to get on the road. This car is the complete package: perfect condition, wonderful specs and a solid history.
