In 1981, the iconic Busso V6 engine was first fitted by Alfa Romeo in the GTV, giving birth to the legendary Alfetta GTV6. Equipped with an injection system, this engine produced a maximum power of 160 hp and a maximum torque of 220 Nm. The result was one of the loudest engines ever produced, as reported by the British Classic and Sportscar magazine.

One of the features of the GTV6 was the plastic cover plate on the hood, which was necessary due to the higher position of the V6 engine compared to the earlier 4-cylinder North engines. This plate gave the GTV6 a recognizable look and made the car all the more striking on the road.

The GTV6 was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, a legendary Italian designer responsible for many iconic cars, including the DeLorean DMC-12 and the BMW M1. The GTV6's design was elegant and sporty, with sharp lines and a stocky stature that gave the car an aggressive look.
