In the late 1950s, Porsche launched the legendary 1958 Porsche 356 A Speedster, which has since become an icon in the automotive world. This special car inherited the legacy of the 356 A generation and offered a unique combination of simplicity and sporting performance.

Max Hoffman, an astute observer of the American car market and a passionate lover of high-performance vehicles, saw an opportunity to meet the growing demand for race-ready Porsches. After speaking with Porsche, he proposed developing an affordable sports car specifically for racing enthusiasts.

The result was a car with a single purpose: to dominate the track. The Speedster was light, agile and without unnecessary extras. Everything was about pure, unadulterated performance. The Speedster quickly became a familiar sight on American racetracks and regularly participated in racing events of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and the California Sports Car Club.

The 1958 Porsche 356 A Speedster had a simple design, with a removable windshield, a lightweight convertible top and side curtains instead of traditional roll-up windows. Inside, the emphasis was on functionality rather than luxury. Although the car initially appealed to American car enthusiasts, European enthusiasts quickly embraced the car as well. What began as an American innovation soon left an indelible impression on both sides of the Atlantic and established its status as a beloved car among fans around the world.

Chassis number 84270 rolled out of the Porsche factory in Zuffenhausen on December 11, 1957. Initially intended as a 1958 model, this Porsche was built to the sought-after T2 specification. It left the factory in a unique Meissen Blau paint color, but today has undergone a high-quality repaint in Signal Red.

We are proud to say that this Speedster is without a doubt one of the best examples we have already driven. The 1,582cc 4-cylinder Type 616/40 engine effortlessly delivers consistent power in every gear, while the drum brakes do an incredible job. In addition, the car's bodywork is in excellent condition. All panels are beautifully straight and the fit is almost perfect.

As icing on the cake, this car comes with several documents, including a copy of the factory Kardex and owner’s manual. Also neatly stored are a jack, tonneau cover and side curtains

This 1957 Porsche 356 A Speedster, chassis 84270, represents an incredible opportunity to acquire a perfectly driving piece of automotive history. Now available at Rock 'n Roll Classics
